Meaning of the General Emblem of C&MA

In his book, “The Four Faces of the Gospel,” Rev. A.B. Simpson explains Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Returning King. The emblem of the C&M A Church illustrates “the four messages of the Gospel that sum up the fullness of the blessings of Christ to us,” as stated by Rev. A.B. Simpson, the founder of the Society.

The Cross: Christ is our Savior

By believing in Him we are saved. He is our only Savior: “There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

The Laver: Christ is our Sanctifier

His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3). Christ not only saves us from the consequences of sin, but also from the power of sin; so that we can experience sanctification, becoming like Him: “Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).

The Pitcher: Christ is our Healer

The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.” (James 5:15) In the atoning death of Christ there is included “He took our infirmities and carried our sorrows” (Isaiah 53:4). By faith we receive healing from Him from both spirit and body.

The Crown: Christ is our Coming King

Jesus said to him, “I am; and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power of God, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:62) Christ’s return to earth as the King of His people, as “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16), is as certain as His promise: “I will come again and will receive you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3).

The Globe: Fulfilling Christ's Great Commission

The Church's responsibility is to fulfill the Lord's Great Commission until He returns: “This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations; and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
